About Me

Well, I’m originally an Appalachian mountain boy from a little town called Castlewood, Virginia. I grew up watching my dad head off to work in coal mines, and every night he’d come back home with a dark, dusty face. In my teenage years, the family moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. I graduated college, and became a public school teacher and coach. A few years later, I graduated law school by the skin of my teeth. Always restless and looking for new challenges, I enlisted in the Army as an infantryman (11B). A couple years after enlisting, I accepted a direct commission as an Army JAG officer, and served for over 20 years. Yeah, I’m that old.

Traveling along in my life, I found myself gravitating toward Stoicism as a way to focus on the proper way to live. The cardinal virtues of courage, justice, temperance, and wisdom weren’t just ancient text to me; they became my guiding principles as I ran, jumped, skipped, and fell in life.

I’ve carried a camera around since the late 1990s. For me photography is more than an aesthetic pursuit; it’s a way to freeze a specific second in time, allowing us to relive and reflect on that moment whenever we choose. In a world constantly moving toward the “next thing”, my photography is an exercise in being present- a visual Stoicism that captures the beauty of what is.

Today, my greatest titles are husband to my childhood sweetheart, Buffy, and father to my three amazing kids. My two oldest children are nurses, and my son is entering his senior year in high school. I am reminded daily that time is our most precious resource, and Memento Mori whispers in my ear constantly.

Through this website, I hope to accomplish three things: (1) Display a small sample of my photographic work in case anyone is interested in contacting me for photography or videography assignments. (2) Use this website as a unique way to document my life. (3) And share my thoughts on a wide variety of topics to include religion, politics, current events, and philosophy.

Feel free to email me at kenhall424@gmail.com if you’re interested in possibly using me as your photographer or videographer. I’ll get back in touch with you promptly.
